Activity 3.2.1 – Natural Resources Review

I used the video "Exploring Natural Resources" to make the concept map above, the video goes into thorough detail about the Natural Resources that we use in our everyday life even if we don't realize it. Natural resources are divided into two categories renewable and non-renewable. Renewable resources are resources that can be replaced by nature, even something that takes long to be reproduced like a tree is considered to be a renewable resource since you are still able to plant a tree in the place of another. Now while we can definitely live off of strictly renewable resources, there's another form of natural resources that allow us to live more "comfortably". These resources are non-renewable resources which are resources that cannot be replenished in a natural way. Such as coal, minerals or natural gases. I say these resources allow us a more comfortable life because they are responsible for things like fuel in our automobiles and power in our homes. While I know that there are forms of gathering energy through the use of solar panels or, electric automobiles that eliminate the use of gasoline. Which I will say I'm a big fan of, I myself drive a hybrid truck. I can't ignore the fact that not only were solar panels most likely made with non-renewable resources but the majority of our power is ran on non-renewable resources. They do help but some of these "eco-friendly" alternatives have a bigger carbon footprint than non-renewable resources. Now before you get ahead of yourself I'm not saying that so you can feel happy about fueling up your gas guzzling muscle car because I still agree with the video that it is extremely concerning the speed in which we are exhausting our non-renewable resources.
