Activity 2.3 - Biosphere and Interconnections
Chapter 4 Energy
Chapter 7 Biodiversity
Chapter 8 Biomes
This assignment allowed me to have a more in-depth insight on the workings of energy, biodiversity, and biomes. The mind maps were extremely useful at helping me visualize my learnings in a form other than words, I myself find it much easier to work and study on material if it is dissected and organized in a matter that displays everything in a simple and direct matter. Instead of something as intimidating as a textbook with hundreds sometimes even thousands of pages, this allows me to consume the material in a much more pleasant and less stressful manner. I also believe that by jotting down information in this matter, allows me to retain the material more effectively. Breaking down the forms of energy as the textbook stated, puts everyday life into a very fun new perspective in my mind. It makes me really think and try to evaluate where something as simple as electricity comes from, something that I take for granted everyday. Where does it come from? How does it get to my house? To my appliances? It's interesting seeing how we use shape ourselves around environment, for our own benefit. No matter how advance we become, we will always have to rely on the environment around us. The same way we use biodiversity to incorporate the things around us, such as the value of plants in a medicinal matter. Able to aid anything from a common cold, to something as destructive as cancer. I've been fortunate enough to travel to our neighboring countries, Canada and Mexico so far in life. It's fascinating how different each places ways of living is and it's not only due to the difference in cultures and heritage but in the biomes that affect their everyday lives. If it's not already obvious, Canadian winters are pretty cold especially since they are a northern country. Which means they get heavy snow, compared to a place like Mexico which rarely gets any snow. Despite these differences both countries have adapted according to their biomes, ones shoveling snow off their yard in the winter while the other is sipping on a piña colada on the beach.
